New for 2011 is the Power Grid Programmable ignition system from MSD Ignition. MSD’s Todd Ryden calls the new ignition system; “The next generation of ignition systems from MSD.” Ryden says the new power grid “has new software improvements that handles every aspect of the ignition controls.” All this efficiency and MSD has added a little extra bite to the ignition control by powering the spark with 550 volts.
The Grid incorporates an efficient 32 bit micro controller and an all new software program, called MSD View, and is USB compatible. The Windows based software is designed with tabs to help racers easily select different programming windows and parameters. Also, the data acquisition files of the ignition are now captured on a micro SD card for ease of storage and reviewing.
The Power Grid Ignition also incorporates CAN-Bus technology which reduces the amount of wiring and simplifies the addition of accessory modules. The CAN-Bus is a common harness that accessory controls are connected to and easily brought into the programming library of the View Software. With this technology, racers can connect the Power Grid system directly into their Racepak Data Recorder and other Racepak products.
According to Ryden; “this ignition controller is easily programmable and we’ve updated the system with a USB connection instead of the serial port.” With all these user friendly upgrades, we agree that the Power Grid will be a popular ignition system.
Features of the Power Grid Ignition System:
- Easy to program software
- Expandable with modular accessories
- USB Connection to your computer for programming
- Micro-SD data acquisition
