Many older car guys have a story about “the one that got away.” Not a long lost girlfriend mind you, but rather that car from their youth, the one they remember with undue fondness. There have been a few successful searchers for misplaced cars from the past, most notably Papa Johns founder putting out a $250,000 reward for his lost Camaro. But most people can’t afford the time, money, and effort it would take to hunt down their lost love.
However, a new television show may give some lucky auto enthusiasts a chance to be reunited with the cars from their youth. Hemmings Auto Blog reports that the new show Restoration Reunions is recruiting people who are looking to find that special automobile that they long ago let go.
The show is being put together by the folks at Firecracker Films, and they hope to help aging car enthusiasts track down vehicles that have some sort of special meaning. While it would be ideal to have some sort of paperwork or paper trail, the producers deemed it not necessarily necessary. So there still might be hope!
It is a great concept for a television show, one that stands to change peoples lives. Alas, we doubt every story will have a happy ending; many cars end up stolen or crushed, while others can be all but impossible to hunt down. That said, there is always hope, and anybody interested in track down an old ride should send an email to jesse.margolis@firecrackerfilms.com.
The rest of us will continue to pine away over the car that got away…though the smartest among us never let our prized car go in the first place.
