These days finding used cars and parts is as simple as booting up your computer and going on eBay, Craigslist, or any of the thousands of websites specializing in automobiles. Finding a good deal can be just as thrilling as punching the throttle on a ‘69 Camaro SS. But when you buy used parts, you rarely know the whole story behind that part. For all you know, it could be lost, stolen, or involved in some terrible accident, which is why it was sold so cheap.
We were initially turned on to this CoParts listing for the remains of an aluminum Cobra replica roadster by Bangshift. A few Google searches later and we uncovered the sad history of this pile of Cobra parts. Suffice to say, we’re not sure we’d want them at any price, and the listing has since been removed.
WCTV out of Tallahassee, Florida has this story from March of 2012 involving an accident between a family driving a Cadillac and a man driving his replica Cobra. The Cobra driver, Randall Dender, was reportedly trying to pass a car where he lost control on Orange Avenue and hit the Cadillac head on. The family in the Cadillac survived, but Dender unfortunately did not.
When we saw the Cobra listing on CoParts, we did some research and found out that it is indeed the same car from the accident mentioned above. This certainly makes the find less appealing, and it is a chilling reminder of the dangers we all face when we take our cars out for a drive.
As one forum member of the Capitol Area Cobra Club, Diane, put it, “We all know that these toys give us amazing latitude to make potentially fatal choices.” Be safe, everyone, this is always sad news to hear.
