Knock the price down on any luxury item and undoubtedly you’ll see sales climb. Knock the price down on a practically race ready supercar and what would happen? Well it appears that the everyday lessons of supply and demand are showing up in the price reduction on the Dodge Viper. The new 2015 Corvette stunned the automotive industry with an extremely low price tag, to keep up Dodge decided to lower the Viper price by $15k. So what were the results?
Sales for the Viper have almost tripled this past September compared to August, and posted the highest sales month since deliveries began in April 2013. Not bad, not bad at all.
The new 2015 Dodge Viper will be priced the same as the 2014 model with an MSRP of $84,995 (base price). Not bad of a deal considering you get more horsepower and better gas mileage than the 2014. But if that extra 5hp and the 1 mpg improvement isn’t enough to make you hold your horses until they make it to the dealerships during the first quarter of 2015, then by all means, go for the 2014 models. You would be joining the other buyers who splurged on the luxury sports car, including the 108 buyers in September, and the 38 in August.
Will this price cut be enough to reach the goal Dodge had of 2000 units sold per year? They have a long ways to go but are inching to the goal line more and more each day. Was $15k enough of a discount in your opinion? Based on all the specs that the Viper has, did Dodge sell themselves short with lowering the price to what would be the equivalent of the price of the Gen 1? Guess we’ll find out.
