Dodge announced the ’11 Challenger SRT8 392 with much fanfare and celebration, but conspicuously absent has been any mention of its Pentastar cousin, the Chrysler 300 SRT8. We found this particularly curious as the original 392 HEMI engine, that one that popularized the HEMI myth, was found in just a handful of cars…among them the 1957-58 Chrysler 300 (“C” and “D” in the letter series). So bringing the 392 HEMI back to the ’11 Chrysler 300C should be an even bigger deal right?

Right. So we were happy to see that Edmunds Inside Line came across spy photographs of what is in all likelihood the Chrysler 300C SRT8.

What are the clues and hints? Well most damningly are the 20-inch chrome wheels with “SRT8” stamped on them. We can clearly see the outline of the 300’s new “C” headlights (which look awesome, BTW). Behind those huge wheels are red brake calibers, and out back are huge exhaust tips from which emanates the growl of the 392 cubic inch, 6.4 liter HEMI engine. This powertrain is good for 470 horsepower and 470 ft-lbs of torque in the Challenger SRT8 and 465 horsepower and 465 ft-lbs of torque in the Dodge Charger SRT8.

Expect the slightly detuned 392 engine, and in all likelihood a very “392 Edition” much like the Challenger got. Underneath all of that camouflage cladding is sure to be a distinctive front and rear fascia.
