Sometimes hitting the big-time means that you have to leave something else behind. Such is the case for Tanner Foust, who is putting the brakes on his Forumla D career…at least temporarily. The popular driver is a fixture in the drifting scene in this country and others as well.
After taking five of seven victories last year, for a second consecutive championship, Foust was voted as the “Best Representative of Drifting” by his competitors. He will continue with U.S. and European Rallycross competition, but his primary focus this year will be co-hosting the History Channel’s American adaptation of Top Gear, along with Adam Ferrara and Rutledge Wood from SPEED TV. Confirmation of Season Two for the program came just days ago.
Currently heading to Europe for some rallycross testing, Foust will travel to the Middle East shortly for one last UAE Invitational event and intends to return and take X-Games XVII by storm. It is likely that his top form will continue in the Super Rally and Rally Cross events at LA Coliseum, where he won gold medals at both last year.
The success of Top Gear in the U.S. market was not a certainty, but this trio apepar to have pulled it off. Earlier attempts to bring the show to domestic shores drew little support, however, it seems that Foust, Ferarra and Wood have put their own unique spin on the production, rather than trying to blindly copy the successful British format. The trio made nine episodes in their first season and a “Best of Top Gear” show finished up the series.
