The Snake Strikes Back: 2026 Shelby GT350 Convertible Returns

The automotive world loves a good comeback story, and this one has been 60 years in the making. The 2026 Shelby GT350 convertible is finally returning to the lineup to mark a major anniversary for the brand. It was way back in 1966 when Carroll Shelby built just four convertibles as an experiment to see if the platform could handle open-air duties. Those cars became legends. Now Shelby American is bringing that rare formula back to the masses, or at least to the lucky few who can get their hands on one before they sell out.

(Yes, there were Shelby GT350 convertibles from 1968-1970, but these were built by Ford, and the ’68 only made 250 gross horsepower from its 302.)

This new machine is not about nostalgia because the specs are genuinely terrifying. Shelby American partnered with heavy hitters like Whipple and Borla to turn the 5.0-liter V8 into a monster. Buyers can stick with the standard 480 horsepower or step up to the supercharged version that cranks out a massive 810 horsepower. That is supercar territory in a car you can drive to the grocery store. The best part is that they are not forcing you into an automatic transmission. You can still order the 2026 Shelby GT350 convertible with a manual gearbox if you prefer to row your own gears.

The official debut happens at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction later this week. It is fitting because Craig Jackson actually owns one of the original 1966 prototypes. The new model pays tribute to that heritage with options like the new “Orange Fury” paint. It is a premium package with a price tag to match. The supercharged convertible starts at $127,884. For that money, you get a tuned suspension and Michelin rubber to keep all that power glued to the pavement. It also comes with a three-year warranty to give you some peace of mind while you shred the tires.

You will need to act fast if you want one parked in your garage. Shelby American plans to build fewer than 1,000 units for the entire 2026 model year. That number is split between the coupes and convertibles. It is a limited run that guarantees exclusivity. Sixty years ago, the drop-top was just a rare experiment. Now the 2026 Shelby GT350 convertible is the ultimate way to experience American muscle with the top down.
