Unique Mooneyes Yokohama Video Brings New Vantage Point to Show

When it comes to the heavy hitters in the hot rod and custom industries, chances are you’ll find many of them in one single place for a certain weekend every year-the Mooneyes Hot Rod Custom Show in Yokohama, Japan. This Kustom Kulture show is one of the largest outside the United States with custom cars and bikes converging at the Pacifico Yokohama for a Sunday show filled with amazing cars, live music and some of the biggest names in the industry. The show is so big, that even US-built hot rods and bikes are shipped overseas to be on display every year, which brings us to our latest “oldy but goody” video find. Check out some of the American customs and their builders that made it to the 2010 Yokohama Mooneyes show in the unique Tim Irwin video above.

This '34 Ford Tudor was built by Suzanne Williams, a true hot rod kind of woman who worked along side Ed "Big Daddy" Roth at Chopper Magazine in the late 60s. Williams has had this particular hot rod since 1973 and has built it to perfection over the last several decades.

Names like Cole Foster, Robert Williams, and Suzanne Williams should ignite a fire in your heart. Only a few of the famous builders on-hand that were represented at the 2010 show, these fine folks are responsible for some of the finest pieces of custom hot rod artwork you’ll ever lay your eyes on.

With legendary names and even more legendary cars behind them, these artists joined custom motorcycle builders like Ian Barry of Falcon Motorcycles, Jeff Decker of Hippodrome Studio, and Grant Peterson of Street Chopper to represent the American hot rod scene at the 2010 show, and represent they did.

This video was shot pre-show with footage of builds being done, vehicles being road driven and finally customs being loaded up for the first leg of their overseas journey. The notion of American customs being shipped overseas for a weekend car show is just amazing and shows just how influential hot rod culture is all over the world.

In the custom scene, it's not just all about traditional hot rods. In fact, the more custom and less traditional, the better, as most of these custom bikes and trucks show.

This year, the Mooneyes Yokohama show pledges to be one for the books just like the ones in years past. It is set to take place on December 2nd with promises of the Schley Brothers’ Lightning Bug 1960 Type 1 Beetle, Bill Schwimmer’s 1959 VW Ragtop Beetle, Dale Snoke’s Rocket 1964 Mercury B/FX, and Garson “Rez” Rivera’s 1929 Roadster making appearances from the United States. There will also be American custom bikes on display from Church of Choppers, NOISE Cycles, Small City Cycles, Evil Spirit Engineering and Roland Sands Design, to name a few.

December is just around the corner but you’ve still got plenty of time to book your trip to one of the coolest rod and custom shows in the world. Take it from us, attending is highly recommended.

The Cole Foster-built '36 Ford needs no introduction. Built for Metallica's Kirk Hammett, this rod is just as famous as its owner.
