As Americans, most of probably think we have the market on big, powerful vehicles cornered…but you’d be wrong. Sure, Jeep has a 470 horsepower version of its Grand Cherokee, and Ford is dropping a 365 horsepower EcoBoost engine into the Explorer, but Europe has its own class of high-powered SUV’s. The only weapon we have to combat them is…the pickup truck.
In particular, a RAM SRT-10 pickup that found its way across the pond to line up in drag races against some of Europe’s fastest SUV’s. So how do you think the cow-hauling pickup did against its Old World opponents?
The list of competitors reads like a who’s who of sporty SUV’s. First up is a supercharged Range Rover GT600, followed by a Mercedes ML63 AMG and finally a BMW X6M Evotech Stage 2. The Range Rover 600 was rated at, you guessed it, 600 horsepower, 100 more than the RAM SRT-10. So it is no surprise that the RAM fell to its cheeky British opponent.
The Mercedes laid the hammer down on the RAM as well, beating it by over a half-second in the quarter-mile. Even the Bimmer beat the RAM, leaving us wondering if the big heavy cow in the back bed of the pickup didn’t somehow mess with the aerodynamics. If you ask us, this calls for a rematch…minus the cow.
