Voice acting is one of those necessary but oft-unheralded professions that most of us take for granted. The most famous voice actor of all time was Mel Blanc, who gave a voice to famous characters like Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, and Marvin the Martian among many others. Paul Frees is another important, though lesser known voice actor who lent his voice to a number of Disney productions and documentaries, and is most famously known for being your “Ghost Host” in Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride.

As it turns out, Frees also did commercials, like this 1968 piece for Goodyear Tires that just happens to also include a ‘68 Dodge Charger hawking this new style of rubber tires.

You may recognize Frees’ voice as he describes the meaning of the word “Squirm” as it relates to tires. Squirming, Frees explains, is terrible for tires. The solution? Goodyear’s Polyglas tires, which had a polyester cord body and a fiberglass cord belt. These tires were designed to hold the tire tread firm and prevent squirming, resulting in better traction and grip for your tires.

These longer-lasting tires were a hot new product in 1968, when this commercial came out, and so was the Dodge Charger. So what better way to showcase one new product, than with another? That’s what we have here, and all narrated by the famous baritone of Paul Frees, one of the premier voice actors of the 20th century. It’s a cool flashback commercial complete with 70’s infographics and hot hippie chicks. What more could you ask for?
