For many of us, growing up with toy cars like Hot Wheels or Matchbox was the beginning of our lives of gearheadedness. We played “cars” with our friends, and for some of us – going way back – a broken Popsicle stick was the perfect tool for making roads in the dirt. It kept us occupied for hours all summer long, and we raced our cars on long, orange racetracks, made jumps, and crashed our cars. Those were good times.

When the car crashed, we brought out some of our other favorite toys: the tow trucks and car haulers. Some younger kids fall in love with heavy equipment, or just about anything that was bigger than our tiny little cars. Some of those kids grew up, and that admiration for big trucks and heavy equipment didn’t go away – it just grew bigger.

Take this rat rod tow truck from hell, for instance. This 1959 Chevrolet Viking sports an additional axle in the rear, and has just enough rust and patina to pull it off as a badass ride. Coming all the way from Finland, one of our readers shared a couple of pictures with us, and the the video above.

Its prior life was delivering corn until the current owner bought it in 1996. There it sat for about ten years until the current creation, which has been making the scene and generating a lot of attention.

The one part of the truck that has remained somewhat secret, however, is the 1,000 horsepower beast under the enormous hood. The Viking can be seen – and most definitely heard – cruising the car show scene in Europe, where it generates quite a reaction from onlookers, mostly raising their hands up to cover their ears. From the field to the streets, this is one cool truck that has our attention.
