It’s unfortunate but true that car accidents are commonplace these days, whether it’s because people aren’t paying as much attention while driving, are succumbing to road rage, or they’re just not being as careful as they should. Vehicle crashes are nothing new- they’ve occurred since the invention of the automobile–the only difference is that most people haven’t seen the aftermath of vintage car crashes in a very long time, if ever. Thanks to a LiveLeak video recently uploaded to YouTube on the “Amazing Videos” channel, here’s your chance to see what car accidents looked like back in the day and how they’ve changed over the years. Check it out above.
Automobile accidents are never pretty, but they are interesting. From minor fender benders to more destructive incidences, car accidents shed an interesting light on how vehicles of different eras and even manufacturers react when put in hairy situations.
Though cars today have crumple zones and air bags, among other features to keep vehicle occupants safe, deeming them safer than vintage cars, some of the old steel-bodied vehicles fared remarkably well in accidents involving other cars or stationary objects. On the other hand, some certainly did not, like the vehicle featured in the video that completely turned into a U-shape from a cave-in of the roof or the handful that bent in half compliments of run-ins with poles on the side of the road. Just like with accidents today, it all seems to depend on a number of factors on how well the car and passengers fared.
This didn’t surprise us but what did was the amount of people shown posing with wrecked vehicles, and we’re not just talking on-lookers at the crash scene.
In some of the photos featured above, groups of people can be seen smiling next to crashed vehicles on display while one photo even shows a group of children posing next to a crashed truck. Oh how times have changed!
This video sheds light on vehicle crashes of the early automobile days, as well as vintage train, bus, truck and motorcycle accidents. Crashes are nothing new but it’s certainly a rare treat to see these vintage photos of crashes back in the day. Unfortunately with every picture that goes by, however, that means one less classic automobile that’s still around to be restored and enjoyed.
