Mopar fans are a special breed of car enthusiasts, and to be sure Dodge’s vehicles have always been a little “out there.” Mopars are also among the most desirable and valuable of classic muscle cars, and over the decades Dodge has shown us some of the most interesting concept cars (and trucks) ever conceived. And Dodge still has most of them, tucked alongside some rare American muscle in a secret garage in the Detroit area.
Somebody at Dodge must owe AutoWeek a favor, because the car-mag was able to get a video tour of this secret garage, sending shivers of envy down our spine.
“It’s a giant Batcave of Mopar memories, part garage, part restoration shop, part small-town library,” says AutoWeek tour guide Kevin Wilson. We couldn’t have put it any better. From Dusters to Vipers, race cars, rally cars, and concepts that can’t move under their own power, its all here in this secret garage. Some of the highlights include the 2007 Dodge Demon, which was slated to replace the Viper, and the “What Would You HEMI?” Zamboni. Yes, a HEMI-powered Zamboni. And Dodge still has it. The HEMI Big Wheel is here to.
There’s the original Little Red Express pickup, and even the Dodge Neon concept car. These cars are maintained by volunteers, and many of them are rotated through different museums, car shows, and concords, so they’re not hidden from the public’s eye forever. We’re glad to see that Dodge is taking good care of these important cars; maybe one day they’ll even throw open the doors to the public of this very private collection.
