We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: our favorite Cutlass has got to be Brian King’s AWD LS2 Cutlass swap that he built himself. Most people would ask why make it AWD, King has answered that question numerous times with video after video of what this insane build is capable of. The question “why?” quickly becomes “holy crap” after watching this car blast down the 1320.
When we first featured it, it was hard to believe that he was actually able to get an AWD setup under the car and maintain a standard ride height. This car was never intended to drive the front wheels, and yet it looks almost natural – as if it should have been Oldmobile’s automotive answer to the Typhoon and Syclone.
Time after time we watched in awe as the Cutlass took on different chores, including the half-mile run, passing the marker at about 158 MPH. Fortunately for us, King loves to entertain with this car, as evidenced by the all wheel drive burnout while this beauty is chained down.
Recently, King was out at the Ice Cream Cruise in Omaha, where a contender in a Pontiac G8 decided he wanted to take on the Cutlass. King said, “I asked him if he was sure he wanted to race me.” It appears the answer was yes, so they ran. This time, we got to see the perspective of the Pontiac and as the tree lit up, the Cutlass did what it does best: it ran like a bat out of hell and disappeared down the dragstrip. Watch it above as it seems to want to launch into the air as it takes off. Now wouldn’t it have been cool if Oldsmobile offered this option?
Now you see him... now you don't.
