In the wide roster of cars to hop up, the Panther platform that underpins the Crown Victoria along with Mercury Grand Marquis and the short-lived Marauder is one that’s tragically overlooked far too often by hot rodders.
We have to wonder why – the recipe for success is there. A ton of cheap, well maintained heavy duty examples are floating around on the market as police departments and other government agencies continue to decommission them, and the car comes equipped with a V8 motor, rear wheel drive, and lots of parts interchangeability with one of the most modified cars in the automotive history – the Ford Mustang. Chevrolet’s mid-90s Impala SS gets plenty of attention, but somehow Ford’s Panther cars tend to be largely ignored. But not by everyone.
To that end, here’s what a bonafide performance maniac might do with a Crown Vic when they’re not satisfied with the stock 4.6-liter V8’s output of around 250 horsepower or so. A user by the name of Quickcrownvic on the Crownvic.net forums yanked a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 from a Ford F150 Lightning and stuffed it into his cruiser along with a 5-speed Tremec manual transmission a little further down the line (the video shows the car still running the original automatic). The result? One of the coolest Crown Victorias you’re likely to ever come across.
Output now stands at 380 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, and aside with some bigger meats out back and some supercharger bits sticking out of the hood, this big Panther sticks with a clean, stealthy look. We love it.
