This is definitely a David vs. Goliath moment for the books as a father and son lineup to throw down in two totally different cars. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat faced off with a Honda Civic Type R on the drag strip and a hot lap, so where the results as predictable as they seem?
The Dodge Hellcat is a fairly overweight car that makes 707 horsepower from its supercharged 6.2L V8 powertrain. It is a straight-line car that can drag most production cars out there, the exception being its big brother, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon…and maybe the Z06, depending on who you ask.
In the other corner is a lightweight Honda Civic Type R that’s built to be nimble and swift. And before you count this car out and scoff at the idea that it would dare race a Hellcat, you should know that it makes 306-horsepower, which gives it a pretty respectable horsepower-to-weight ratio. The lighter weight, shorter wheelbase, and an agile suspension is plenty enough to at least hold its own when it comes to any sort of circle track or road racing.
So, with all that being said, we pretty much gave away the results just describing the two cars. In what’s sure to surprise absolutely no one, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat walked the Civic Type R in the drag race, and the agile Civic took down the all-American muscle car going around the track. While the results did turn out to be predictable, the video does provide an interesting perspective on both cars and what they’re built to do.
