Video: FFR ’33 Hot Rod Smokes it Up at Burnout Contest

We love seeing hot rods out doing more than just looking good. Lately Factory Five has helped create a movement of doing more with your hot rod with their ’33 Hot Rod that we’ve featured here on Rod Authority before. We recently found this video linked on the FFR facebook page and had to share it with our readers.

The car belongs to Mark Fettback from Langley, BC. Fettback’s suede black ’33 features a small-block Ford engine and is wearing Mustang Bullit replica wheels. The car is capable of dipping deep into the 12s at the drag strip, running a best of 12.28 at 109 mph. In this video he is participating in the track burnout contest.

Burnout contests seem to bring out the twelve year old kid in all of us and Fettback is no exception. Showing off for the crowd that he has likely already impressed with his respectable ETs, he wastes no time in creating a very smokey scene for the audience. Contestants here were give one minute to burn the tires down and get the respect of the crowd. As is the case with most burnout contests, audience approval is what gives you the win.

Fettback’s car very quickly disappears into very thick cloud of stinky tire smoke and the crowd’s approval is fairly obvious. A brave woman who we assume is the track official in charge of the burnout contest, cautiously approaches the car using her smart phone as a timer. At this point just about the only thing left visible of Fettback’s car is the spinning rear tire.

Forty-five seconds through it would seem he thinks his time is up, and he shuts the car down, only to be told by the lady doing the timing that he still has a few second remaining. Back on the loud pedal the rear tires billow smoke faster than steam boat stacks on the Mississippi river. There’s an eery red glow to the smoke at the back of the car as it is illuminated by the car’s tail lights.

By the end, the car was so filled with smoke that he had to wait for it to clear before he could drive away. You can see in the last few seconds that he is trying to fan the smoke out of the inside of the car. After seeing this video we have to ask our readers, what are you going to do to get out and enjoy your hot rod today?
