What young man among us has not once dreamed of being a race car driver? The thrills, the speed, the prizes and accolades that come with victory, this and more is what professional-level racing has to offer. But most of us aren’t pros, and even those that have the skills to drive at the top tier still need a race car, which we don’t have to tell you can be a very expensive endeavor.
The Radical RXC is England’s answer to the affordable race car, sourcing a Ford Mustang Duratec 37 Ti-VCT V-6 engine and dropping it into a lightweight, purpose-built competition machine. Carscoop reports that the Radical RXC racer will make its debut at London’s Salon Privé, which takes place from September 4th through the 6th.
The heart of the Radical RXC is a 3.7 liter Ford V-6 engine pulled from the Ford Mustang, which makes 305 horsepower and 280 ft-lbs of torque. Respectable, no doubt, but once Radical waves its tuning wand over the engine, it ends up churning out 380 horsepower and 320 ft-lbs of torque, which sends power to the rear-wheels via a RPE/Quaife seven-speed manual transmission.
Weighing in at just 1,984 pounds, the Radical RXC can zip from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 175 mph. Amazing what a little V-6 engine can do in the right car, ain’t it? A lightweight, tubular-steel chassis is covered by a lightweight body structure made from carbon fiber and composite materials. An integrated roll cage and crash boxes provide protection for drivers, who can get their first in-person look at the Radical RXC at the Salon Privé next month.
