Crazy is as crazy does. In the auto enthusiast community, there are plenty of people who the 9-5ers might consider a bit off their rocket. But to car guys, these guys are our true heroes. They take the seemingly impossible, and make it a reality. They are true savants, capable of cobbling together vehicles that make us go “Whaaaa?”
Such is the case with Rocky Phillps and his “Evil Twin” dual-engine dragster. Bangshift came across this wild double-engine ride and this on-board video from a trip down the dragstrip. You’ve got to be crazy to build a car like this…and even crazier to actually drive it.
Getting two engines to work in tandem is a challenge very few engineers undertake. Lining up two small-block V8 engines in a way that doesn’t have them shredding the drivetrain takes patience, skill, and a whole lot of tinkering to make it work just right. But Phillips somehow pulls off the seemingly impossible, delivering a unique driving experience that also has the ability to suck in all the attention from its surroundings. Seriously, how could you ignore this car?
The build utilizes two side-by-side Chevy small-block V8s with the flywheels integrated. This kind of build takes a lot of customization and skill, and a mess of patience to boot. But the end result is an undeniably cool dragster that should not, and would not exist without the crazed creativity of people like Rocky Phillips.
Keep the dream alive, Rocky. We’re all rooting for you.
