There is a lot of talk about “distracted driving” these days, as the government seeks to curb deaths among young people who spend too much time talking/texting, and not enough time driving. But what about the police? We regularly see officers of the law speeding, chatting on their phones, and pulling U-turns that would get the rest of us pulled over.

Well friends, that is because the police have special training…like this classic police pursuit video circa 1970’s, dug up by the boys over at BangShift.

The video starts by asking a simple question; what’s more deadly, a .38 caliber handgun, or a 4,200 lbs police cruiser. The answer is of course the police cruiser because, in the wrong hands, it puts out over 2,000,000 pounds of force. Just watch this big old Dodge Polara plow through a mannequin if you don’t believe us.

The video harps on the hazards of distracted driving and notes that these big police cruisers can do more harm than good if you don’t pay attention. But the real draw of this video is the high-speed police pursuit in huge 70’s era land yachts. Skip to the 4-minute 30-second mark if you want to get right into the action. Otherwise check out this crazy old pursuit video to see some full-size Chryslers laying down the law.
