Are you a fan of the incomparable Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe? If so, then you need to check out this video! The Daytona Cobra Coupe was based on the original AC Cobra chassis and drivetrain, specifically built to take on Ferrari in the GT class, with only six cars built between 1964 and 1965.
This particular car, chassis CSX 2300, is reputed to be the only Daytona Cobra Coupe in Europe, and it’s a real treat to see it taking on one of the best road courses in the world, Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
CSX-2300 was originally painted in the Tri-Colore national hue of France, with Andre Simon and Jo Schlesser placing the car third at the Nürburgring in Germany in the GTIII category and 12th overall in the 1964 race.
The car was subsequently returned to Alan Mann Racing in England and repainted in the traditional Guardsman Blue/White stripe of the 1965 Shelby team. The car was even owned by Carroll Shelby himself before being sold for the whopping sum of $4.4 Million back in 2000.
It’s amazing to see a car of this vintage and provenance actually making laps on the track, and we give credit to the current owner for being willing to risk what is a substantial investment to do so.
We can’t imagine what it must be like to drop the hammer on one of the most exclusive vehicles in the world, but it sure does look like a rush. Click the video and have a listen to one hell of a small-block Ford engine – packing 390 horsepower in a flyweight chassis, roaring around the track with sidepipes blasting- it’s sure to brighten your day!
