When General Motors axed Pontiac in 2009, it was the sad end for a storied brand that in recent years seemed to really hit its stride. Cars like the Pontiac Trans Am, G8, and GTO injected excitement into GM’s lineup, but ultimately the brand was deemed redundant. That leaves Pontiac fans in a lurch, pining away for their own version of Chevy’s awesome 5th-generation Camaro.
Leave it to the aftermarket to develop a response. The Trans Am Depot, known for its Camaro-to-Trans Am conversion kits, has just released this teaser video of the 2014 Camaro-based GTO kit. It’s as much an homage as it is a 21st century take on a classic performance car.
Trans Am Depot got started with its Camaro-based Trans Am conversion kits, giving Pontiac fans an alternative to GM’s lack of new Pontiac products. The kit proved popular enough to get a Hurst version, and for 2014 Trans Am Depot is branching out into another Pontiac classic, the GTO Judge.
Details are few and far between, and this teaser reveals nothing beyond the fact that a GTO kit is coming to Camaro fans. Hideaway headlights, aggressive twin hoodscoops, and GTO-like tri-bar tail lights all appear to be a part of the kit. But what’s under the hood? What does the inside look like? These are all questions we can’t wait to have answered with the full reveal of this reborn legend.
