Just because gas prices are rising doesn’t mean America is about to give up its love affair with the pickup truck. These heavy-duty haulers have remained the most popular selling vehicles in America for decades, and there will always be a place for fast trucks among the pickup faithful. We’ve gotten a good taste of some supercharged HEMI’s lately, and now we can add one more to that list.
Meet the HEMI HPE500 Ram 1500 pickup, with 500 horsepower on tap and a cornucopia of options available from that well-known maker of fast automobiles, Hennessey Performance Engineering.
The basic supercharger kit for 2009+ Ram 1500 HEMI pickups includes the usual Hennessey suspects, like bigger fuel injectors, an improved intake, engine management software/tuning, and a cat-back exhaust system. The real star of the show though is the supercharger system, which boosts horsepower to over 500 at the crank. At the wheels this translates into 422 horsepower and 422 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels. That’s enough power to turn this farm truck into a seriously fast heavy hauler. That’s enough power to propel this big boy to a 13.1 quarter-mile at 104mph.
Being that this is Hennessey though, you don’t have to stop at the standard kit. From long tube headers, bigger wheels, and your choice of raising or lowering the body of this bad boy truck, you can mold your supercharged HEMI into just about anything (provided you’ve got the funding/line of credit). This HEMI hauler certainly seems like a great way to arrive at the track in style, and with that much power there isn’t really an excuse for being late.
