Depending on whom you ask, the greatest sin ever committed by Chrysler was either bringing the Charger back as a four-door sedan, or aligning themselves with European automakers three times. Say what you will about the Charger’s legacy as a coupe, the large rear-wheel drive sedan has found success with consumers and police fleets across the country, and the world. But what if Dodge had made the modern Charger a proper coupe?
Carscoop came across these pictures of what appears to be a two-door Dodge Charger convertible…until you put your glasses on. That’s when you realize what you’re looking at is a bastardized Mustang convertible strapped with the front and rear end of a Dodge Charger.
When all is said and done, it’s not a half-bad attempt by the creator to build the droptop muscle car Chrysler failed to deliver. However, there’s only so much you can do to hide the fact that this is a Mustang convertible short of a complete body teardown. The side profile features the lean, smooth curves of a pony car versus the jagged, muscular edges found on the Charger sedan.
In other words, these two cars just don’t work. The Lambo doors, huge rims, and even the Charger-style hood scoop just don’t bring a two-door Charger droptop any closer to reality. Perhaps now that Chrysler is allied with Fiat, they can figure out a way to lift the roof off of the Challenger. We won’t hold our breath.
