The Mustang Club of America’s Ron Bramlett, Executive Director of the MCA’s planned Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration, has announced there will be two gala events on the same weekend in April of 2014 – one in Las Vegas, Nevada and one in Charlotte, North Carolina. For those of us who have been celebrating Mustangdom for the better part of a half century, the Mustang’s 50th Anniversary has been coming for a lifetime. A lot of us thought it would never get here. The closer it gets, the greater the anticipation. We’re ready to saddle up and go where the Mustangs go – and what a great moment in history this is going to be.
As you can expect from the MCA, this will be a stellar weekend centered around the most successful marque in American automotive history. Oh sure – a lot of carlines have outsold Mustang. But none have had the impact on the psyche like Mustang has – and for 48 years and counting. It has been an integral part of our thinking for most of our lives.
Mustang was the marque that changed all the rules. You really could afford sportiness in a groovy compact car because Team Mustang, led by Lee Iacocca and Don Frey, wanted it that way. Add to that affordable sportiness Joseph Oros’ styling magic, the Mona Lisa profile, bucket seats, floor shift, and a choice of six or V-8 power and Mustang was an unbeatable car buying decision. Mustang was a hot car for the masses. Everyone loved it and tried to justify buying it even if they didn’t need a new car.
Then, as new car buyers, we took our Mustangs to college, to work, on vacation, for weekend getaways, and on errands just for the opportunity to drive one. The car felt like no other. It was a huge ego feeder to own and drive one. Some of us traded or sold our Mustangs in order to make room for growing families or changing needs. Quite a few of us decided years later we just had to have another one.
Once we saddled up again after all those years, there was no stopping our passion. We’d rejoined the herd and caught the sweet smell of saddle soap. We were Mustangers again. And then there are those of us who never left – never being able to imagine ourselves outside the pack.
Whatever your reason for this enthusiasm, you won’t want to miss the excitement of 2014 where Mustang Mania will be celebrated all year long in some way or another. “It is the desire and intent of the Mustang Club of America to make sure that as many Mustang enthusiasts as possible can come and enjoy the celebration of the Mustang’s 50th birthday with the MCA in 2014,” Ron tells StangTV, “Also, all of us working on the event want all Mustang enthusiasts to know that everyone will be welcomed to the MCA’s Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration including MCA members and non-MCA members alike.”
