A factory flaw in the design of the ’69 Mustang wiring harness that runs through the steering column can cause a short and potential wire fire.  American Autowire has designed a wiring kit to eliminate this problem.  It is due to be release to the market in a few short months.

We talked with Don Bock, the Research and Development Manager at American Autowire.  “This is a known problem with the ’69 Mustangs, so we put a kit together that would solve that problem.  This kit is not for someone that is doing a concours restoration, but the guy that wants to make his street rod safer.  We call it a classic update kit.”

According to Bock, the kit will be simple.  “All components needed for the modification will be included.  All fuses, relays and wiring.  There’s nothing else to buy.  Best of all, these parts are in numbered and labeled bags.  If you can read and follow instructions, you can perform this upgrade.”

Bock explained to us that some states have automobile inspections and part of the process is checking that fog lights go out when high beams are triggered.  This kit has the appropriate relays to make sure that “high beams on, fog lights out” federal standard is complied with.  “You won’t have problems passing your state’s automobile inspection with this kit,” said Bock.
