Chevrolet has recently updated their website to include the build configurator for their 2019 offerings. That includes the new 755 horsepower ZR1 Corvette that has been promised since November. Now, enthusiasts can option out their own perfect example of the fastest car Chevrolet has ever produced. There are also configurators for all 2019 Corvette offerings including the Stingray, Grand Sport, and the Z06.
We spent some time on the Chevrolet website, er, doing research, and we’ve spec’d out a couple of options. We like the entire C7 line of Corvettes, but who can argue with 755hp on tap! So, as you can imagine, the bulk of our “research” dealt with the ZR1. We “built” a ZR1 that fit out needs (likely a little more low-key than most ZR1 shoppers) and then shot for the moon on our second round, clicking boxes to get a little more shock and awe.
As commanding as the ZTK Performance Package's wing can be, we like the looks of the more subdued standard rear wing.
While we can quietly savor a car of the Vanilla hue, it was near impossible to build a new ZR1 in another color than the newly introduced Sebring Orange Tintcoat. While a premium color, and commanding another $995 to the price, we feel this color is quite befitting of a car of this stature and well worth the additional cost. While the trend in performance vehicles seems to gravitate to a shade of black or graphite wheels, we found that the standard Pearl Nickel-painted wheels were quite fitting, regardless of the darker shade’s more performance-oriented persona.
We liked the color combination available through the 3ZR trim level. While the lower-priced 1ZR speaks to our sensibilities, we think sitting in the Kalahari-colored interior will easily make up for any cost difference. The Advanced Bose audio and leather/carbon-fiber wrapped wheel are other benefits of the 3ZR.
Beyond that, the major difference came down to the new ZTK Track Performance Package and the Sebring Orange Design Package. Having a bit of a “Jekyll & Hyde” moment, we could see ourselves opting for the ZTK Performance Package (including its attention-demanding rear wing) but likely, would opt out of the Sebring Orange Design Package as we just can see the need for orange seat-belts. Your mileage may vary.
The Sebring Orange Design Package includes additional orange striping, orange calipers, orange stitching, orange seat belts and a little more orange than we cared to surround ourselves with.
All in all, we think the ZR1 styling is top-notch, whether it has the wing or not, and it was fun to spend some time spec’ing out one of the baddest, fastest cars in the world today. Hopefully, if the numbers on this slip of paper wind up matching those on the TV, we’ll be hitting the “Buy Now!” button very soon!
