Attention all serious car collectors, recently found on Ebay is a very rare 1970 Pontiac GTO Ram Air IV 4-speed. An all matching numbers find, this rare gem amazingly still maintains 95% of the original components under the hood. The GTOs were typically raced hard early on and usually lost their original block quickly. Over 90%, still hitting the pavement, do not retain their original drivetrain; making this a gold mine of a find.
One of the early generation muscle cars, the GTO was in production from 1964 to 1974. The Pontiac GTO is considered to have started the trend and competition wars among the big four American automakers of the day, offering a variety of competing models to the consumer.
From 1964 until midway through 1973 the GTO was related to the mid-sized Pontiac Tempest/Le Mans. With the release of the 1970 GTO, the suspension was upgraded with the addition of a rear anti-roll bar. This was put in place essentially to reduce in body lean in the turns and assisted with a modest reduction of understeer. The base engine was unchanged in the 1970, but the low-compression economy engine was deleted and the Ram Air III and Ram Air IV remained available only as special-order options.
This Ram Air IV find, sporting the factory correct Pepper Green paint, is flawless in condition and is 100% rust free with the sheet metal absolutely laser straight all of the way around the car. Moving to the interior you find more of the same. In place are the correct factory green bucket-seats along with the console in perfect form from front to back. From the headliner to under the dash this ride is 100% factory.
Under the hood you will find the original Ram Air IV (WW) power-plant backed by the original numbers matching Muncie M21 4-speed transmission along with the original intake, heads, carburetor and exhaust manifolds all in place.
Accomplishments include the 2012 Pontiac-Oakland Club “Gold Award”, the 2013 prestigious “Senior Gold Award, and in 2013 the car was judged at the GTOAA National Convention where it was awarded the “Concours Gold Award”.
With less than seventy five miles since the Concours restoration, this find is much like buying a brand new 1970 Pontiac GTO Ram Air IV off the showroom floor. Upon purchase the new owner will receive the complete PHS documentation, a photo album documenting the restoration, the original 1970 owner’s manual, the original GTO service manual, and all awards and certificates.
With a few days left to bid on this sweet ride, the “Buy It Now” is set at $139,950.00. Sure to garner serious collectors from around the world, it would be interesting to be able to see the offers made. What would you pay to add this green jewel to your collection?
