Change is inevitable, and when it comes to the car hobby, sometimes that change is met with a little resistance by us enthusiasts. But, while change does affect all of us at some point, if we accept the change and make it work to our benefit, how can that be a bad thing?
How many Chevelles can we flood the event with?
For many years, Phil Painter has put on a car show called Mopars at the Strip, which was aptly named since was held at “The Strip” in Las Vegas. Since we started this discussion by talking about change, we wanted to let you guys know that this time, change is affecting the show. Fortunately, this change is one that can truly benefit us Chevrolet fans. The show has always featured some great racing, gorgeous show cars, and a swap meet that delivers many rust-free parts. But, for most of the event’s lifetime, Bow Tie fans have needed to look from afar.
Our guess is that the Mopar guys were afraid of a little competition, but that is about to change. The show previously known as Mopars at the Strip (MATS) is now including all GM and Ford enthusiasts. Now forever known as Musclecars At The Strip, we can all come together and show which brand truly is King of the Hill.
Because of this, we Chevy enthusiasts need to come together, inundate the show field and racing pits with as many Bow Tie’s as we can. When it was known as Mopars At The Strip, we were able to tell everyone that they were lucky the Chevy brand was not allowed to attend. Now that we can, we better back up what we were saying.

Not only do we need to fill the show field and race pits, but who says we can’t take over the autocross course as well?
We all like to relive the good ole days when our musclecars were new, and now we can relive the classic musclecar wars once again. Do you think your Chevelle is better than your buddy’s Road Runner? Is your Camaro better looking than your friend’s ‘Cuda or Mustang? Prove it! Let’s fill the venue with as many Chevrolet cars and trucks as possible. In case you were wondering, the show will be set up like three separate car shows, and vehicles will compete against their own brand.
We keep thinking that this would be a great West Coast event to put together a true classic Super Stock Challenge, so contact MATS, and tell them so. Make them put together an event that will make it possible for the Chevrolet brand to show how much better it is that those “other guys.”
Cars, truck, even buses can be brought to "take over" the show.
We need to generate a lot of interest in the concept of a “challenge” event, and if we as Chevrolet enthusiasts stand on the sidelines and spectate, how can we truly say that our cars are better. Let’s all make plans to bring a car or truck to the show, and show those other brands what it’s like to place second when the real musclecars show up.
This is more than just a car show (check out last year’s event coverage), as each evening there is the Cannery Concert. Held each year at the host Hotel “The Cannery,” This is event central for all after show happenings. This year’s band has not been announced as of this writing, but you can be sure it’ll be a rockin’ good time.
The party continues well into the evening at the host hotel.
So let’s all get together and take over the show and make sure that everyone out west knowns what brand really is best. With events like drag racing, the car show, swap meet and Manufacturers Midway, the Pony Car Wars, and finally, the Cannery Concerts, this event has more to see and do than any other musclecar event in the country. Make your plans now to attend the Musclecars At The Strip Event on April 21 through the 23 of 2017.
