Photo-Op Becomes Father and Son Superbird Find

Locating valued artifacts and the stories surrounding the quests are popular fodder for legends. At the cool Cars in Barns website we came across a tale that for muscle car enthusiasts, may be the equivalent of finding and bringing home the Holy Grail…times 2!

For many years, Jim from Virginia had been aware that two Plymouth Superbirds were slowly reverting to base elements on the property owned by a reclusive neighbor. He also knew that all previous attempts to purchase the rare birds had been rebuffed. However, Jim and his son were involved in their own Daytona Charger conversion project at the time and getting some detailed photos of the cars would greatly help them solve some problems that they had encountered.

The Superbirds’ owner graciously allowed Jim to get his pictures while Jim’s son told the neighbor all about their latest father and son project that they were involved in. After the photos were taken they parted ways leaving the owner with their thanks, Jim’s business card and Jim’s offer to purchase the cars at the owner’s price when the owner eventually made that decision.

Fast-forward six months when Jim got the call! It seemed that the owner was extremely impressed with the way Jim’s son comported himself during their meeting and that he was touched by the relationship that Jim and his son have. Because of those reasons (along with a big wad of cash) he felt that they should be the next owners of the two Superbirds!

Deep in the Virginia woods these two Plymouth Superbirds waited for years to be rediscovered and rescued from the ravages of nature.

Since that time, one of the birds has been fully restored while the other will be brought to driver quality. But the father/son team remains and the progress continues on their projects. There is a complete and touching backstory that is a big part of this tale. You can read the whole thing at the Cars in Barns website.
