It’s hard to put one of these old sedans together in a way that doesn’t look good. They wear everything well from hot rod rust and patina to show quality shine. They are just nice looking cars that are meant to be made into the owner’s ideal image. We’ve seen them chopped, bagged, tubbed, and blown, and we’ve never seen one that we didn’t like.
This particular 1946 Ford sedan belongs to Dave Ladnier of Chino, California. He has had the car since 2001 and more than anything he just likes to drive it. A while before seeing it in person, Dave came across this car online and it was all black, straight down to the chrome and stainless trim. “It was nice looking,” Dave told us, “but it was too much.”
Later, he saw the car with the red on it that you see now. The bumpers and trim were still black, but it was better. That is what it looked like when Dave bought it, and as he has been driving it, he has had the bumpers and grill re-chromed. “I drive the crap out of it,” Dave told us. It’s built with a small-block Chevy 350 cubic-inch engine and an automatic transmission with overdrive.
“It’s not what you’d call show quality, but it’s a damn nice driver,” Dave explained. “It’s got some rock chips in the paint, but it’s because it’s been driven.” Since he has had it, Dave has also upgraded the suspension and drivetrain to include a Chubby Chassis front end, front coilover suspension, power brakes, and a Ford 9-inch rearend.
