Take a Trip Through Formula DRIFT Irwindale in Just 2.5 Minutes

When it comes to drifting, there is no bigger event in the United States than the Formula DRIFT Championship. Held at the Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, California, known as the “House of Drift” and the home track for many drivers, the weekend long event is full of squealing tires and hot competition. The result of the final Formula DRIFT event of the year is the crowing of a champion, the driver that exhibits the best form, grace and all out speed throughout the season.

With so much going on at the event, it is hard to imagine being able to take it all in in those three days of competition. But as Autoholics reported, Larry Chen from Speed Hunters did just that and brings us the time-lapse video footage in just 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

From long before the first break of dawn on Friday October 7th, the video captures the hubbub of race team preparations, practice and qualifying rounds, all set fittingly to the sounds of the “William Tell Overture.” Autograph signings, welcoming announcements, mechanical work on drift cars, track prep and even a few strangely paused faces, this video has it all.

Just as fascinating as how much the video shows in its limited time frame is the time lapse of the drifting from afar. You can see the smoke but don’t try picking out the cars because they are almost impossible to see.

Wrapping up the video is footage of the first place race winner Tyler Mcquarrie, second place Rhys Millen, and third place Chris Forsberg getting their podium recognition. The video ends fittingly with Formula DRIFT 2011 Champion, Daijiro Yoshihara, receiving his championship trophy.

Whether you’re looking for something that gives you an overview of all of the action at Formula DRIFT Irwindale from afar or an up close and personal experience with the drift cars themselves, this video has it all. Check out the video below for a unique look at the Formula DRIFT Championship event in just 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
