Not long after announcing that Chris Evans would be one of the beleaguered show’s new hosts, the BBC has announced that they’ll be hold open auditions for those interested in becoming Top Gear’s next host alongside Evans. That’s right, you could be the show’s next host if you have what they’re looking for.
“The way Richard and James were found was by auditioning.” Evans told TopGear.com. “So what we’re going to do is hold auditions. Not just for famous people, ex-famous people, up-and-coming famous people, but for people who are watching the show.”
Evans went on to drive home the idea that anyone can apply so long as they have “petrol” running through their veins. “You can be a mechanic, you can be an amateur racing car driver, you can be a guy who’s a fireman but who’s been building his own Land Rover in his shed for five years, but you’ve got to know about cars.”
There’s no guarantees that the show will pick up a host from these auditions, but with the criteria so wide open for submissions, there isn’t much to lose by trying. “It should just be you, to camera from the waist up. No stunts, no gimmicks, just you talking to camera”, says Evans. If the production team digs your clip, you might get invited out to the UK for a more in-depth audition for the show.
You must be 17 or older to apply, and submissions must be made by July 20th. Instructions for how to send in your 30-second audition clip can be found here on the Top Gear site.
