The Mopar force proves once again that they can keep right up with “Club GM” in terms of turbo performance, as revealed by our featured video of Performance Injection Equipment’s turbocharged Dakota R/T at Atco Raceway in Atco, New Jersey. Our featured truck’s best run of the day was a 10.57 pass at 125 miles per hour.
Without a doubt the East Coast’s premiere turbo conversion company, Performance Injection Equipment or PIE of Georgetown, Delaware offers a front-mount turbo kit for all ’96-03 Dakotas, Durangos and 2 and 4-wheel-drive 1500 and 2500 series Rams. It fits all 5.2 and 5.9 liter stock and stroker applications.
According to PIE, the Dodge truck turbo kit is easy to install and user-friendly, “PIE’s exclusive front mount turbo system is designed for enthusiasts with little knowledge of engine/turbo systems and comes complete with everything you need to get the job done including a pre-tuned controller, headers and all gaskets and hardware.”
With a build this complete, it’s no wonder that our featured Dakota pulls-off such impressive track times. Powered by a 2-bolt 360 with a factory block, it also features a shopping list of other go-fast goodies. These include a set of hand-prepped aluminum, Mopar heads, turbo-spec pistons from JE, a stock crank balanced with H-beam rods, a custom cam ground specifically for the turbo and PIE’s stainless steel turbo mounting kit.
All-in-all it makes for one fast pickup, and with a best pass of 10.57 at 125 there is no question that Performance Injection Equipment’s fine SCT tuning has definitely not gone to waste. There’s no limit as to what you can make go fast with the right turbo; if you were on the East Coast, what kind of a car or truck would you have PIE turbocharge?
