eBay Find of The Day: ’68 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds 455

The Hurst Performance Research Corporation got seriously involved in performance cars as an effective method of promoting their aftermarket performance products. It was in their interest to keep the specially built vehicles limited and when they started building the Oldsmobile Hurst/Oldsmobile in 1968, only 515 cars were made.

These were shipped to select Oldsmobile dealers for sale or to fill pre-orders. The H/O was the most powerful production intermediate Oldsmobile for the next three model years, and stood tall alongside the likes of other specially-opted 4-4-2 Oldsmobiles like the W-30, W-31 and W-32 models.

A signature on the appropriate papers and $58,000 plus taxes, could see this particular example land in your driveway in short order. Currently for sale on eBay remains active for just another seven days.

The 95,596-mile car is said to be the 69th example produced that year. Originally sold in Utah and now residing in Arizona, the car appears both well preserved and looked after.

This vehicle is a W45, non-A/C car, meaning that it was built with the ‘D-heads’ from the W-30 Olds, a .308 duration .474-inch lift camshaft and a 3.90 rear axle. The Ram Air scoop under the front bumper was part of the W30 package, including the red fenderwells visible in the photos. According to the current owner, the car has previously gone through a restoration and he has had the engine warmed up at “one of the finest muscle car engine shops in Phoenix.”

There are rarer muscle cars that sell for less than the asking price here, but none are as well looked after and present as well as does this 1968 Oldsmobile 442 Hurst/Olds example. If the owner is correct in saying that fewer than a hundred examples now exist, it would certainly make a great addition to your driveway or garage.
