With the 2015 Mustang taking center stage throughout SEMA, and taking the aftermarket by storm, Ford Racing Performance Parts was certain to have a variety of parts for taking any S550 Mustang to the next level at this year’s show. “We’ve been working very hard for the past several months to have parts ready for the show and our customers,” says Ford Racing’s Jessie Kershaw.
Super Charger
For their 2015 catalog, Ford Racing has teamed up with ROUSH Performance to create an all new Supercharger Package. Still based on the popular Eaton TVS 2.3 rotor pack, this supercharger features a revised housing that allows for much greater air volume.
This kit is capable of producing over 625 horsepower out of the box according to Kershaw, and since it was developed jointly between ROUSH and Ford Racing, has OE level engineering for excellent fit and finish. A calibration is included with the kit, “We did a lot of work with the calibration to get good power, and good mid-range torque, as well as excellent drivability,” says Kershaw. The FRPP supercharger kit will be available from ROUSH Performance and Ford Racing authorized retailers in just a few weeks.
Handling Pack
Whether you’re going drag racing, or looking to carve corners, the FRPP Handling Pack is something that is sure to be popular with S550 owners. This package lowers the car approximately one-inch, includes new struts, springs (front and rear), and new rear shocks. Also included are new sway-bars. This is the same suspension pack that was installed in the ’15 Mustangs used in the drag test video that debuted just over a month ago.
The struts and springs can be purchased separately or pre-assembled, making swaps even easier for enthusiasts doing the work at home. “We like doing the assembled route because it takes a lot of mystery out of it for the enthusiast, they don’t need special tools, and it’s an easy installation,” says Kershaw.
The Back Half
“We really think the aftermarket is going to embrace what we’ve done for the rearend of the cars,” says Kershaw. “With the IRS an all new system for the Mustang, we have parts available that no one else has yet.”
The first of those parts are the FRPP rear differential gear sets. Currently available in 3.55 and 3.73 ratios. While the 8.8 ring and pinion had remained largely unchanged since its introduction in the Mustang in 1986, Kershaw says the new IRS 8.8 is not compatible with previous ring and pinion system. For now, this means FRPP is the only place for enthusiasts to get a ring and pinion upgrades and install kits for a S550 Mustang.
Half-Shafts
The biggest groan we’ve heard from hardcore enthusiasts since the announcement of IRS as standard on the S550 is that this style suspension is ill-suited for drag racing. While few enthusiasts will ever build their Mustang stout enough to justify a solid rear axle swap, many may need an upgrade to the rear half-shafts when they significantly up the horsepower.
FRPP turned to G-Force to develop a solution for the S550. “We went full bore with these parts. We had an opportunity where we could have just changed a couple of things and we decided to do everything we could. The thinking was if you’re going to spend the time to tear apart the rear end then lets use parts do it right the first time.
Working together with the new half-shafts Kershaw says they recommend upgrading the bushings in the rear differential for high output, hardcore enthusiasts. Many of these bushings are aluminum, solid bushings, however the housing bushings themselves are Delrin for to reduce NVH while still providing a bushing with minimum deflection.
Air/Oil Separator
Coyote engines, even naturally aspirated versions benefit from an Air/Oil separator, Ford racing is getting in on the huge market for these parts with the release of their Air/Oil Separator for the S550. Featuring factory style connections, and an embossed Ford logo, this not only looks like a Factory piece under the hood but it is a much needed upgrade for hard driving enthusiasts, especially those that switch to Forced induction.
