PRI 2014: DBA USA Puts a Stop to Excessive Wear

IMG_0928GRModern factory brakes have to do a lot of things well, for a long time. They have to stop reliably, last as long as possible, and suffer the abuse of everything from new drivers to the stop-and-go hell of a big city commute. Considering how many different demands they have to meet, they’re pretty remarkable.

DBA's proprietary 'kangaroo paw' internal vent layout provides a cooling efficiency increase of as much as 20% over conventional designs.

Unfortunately though, once you head to the track, even most performance-oriented factory brakes show their weaknesses. At this year’s PRI show, we spoke with Disc Brakes Australia USA‘s Yoni Kellman, and he pointed out one unfortunate fact. “Even most aftermarket brake rotors designed for track use simply get consumed too quickly,” he explains. “Club sport racers sometimes have to change rotors several times in a single weekend – the racing environment is just that hard on them.”

DBA, makers of premium replacement rotors for street, off-road, and competition use, took a look at the problem and developed discs capable of providing far greater life than factory or aftermarket parts, without sacrificing braking feel or performance.

“It might sound strange to the average driver, but going from using up two sets of rotors in a day to getting a full day or more out of a set is a big deal to road racers,” Kellman added. With a list of applications that’s growing daily and multiple rotor designs from stock replacement to full race, chances are that whatever you drive, on the street or the track, they’ve got something that will fit your car and how you drive it.
