If you’re in the market for a C1 Corvette, a really nice one down in Florida is available with 66,655 original miles and interesting mods on eBay.
On the outside it looks stone stock in Polo white with shiny paint but underneath the hood the trusty Blue Flame six has been breathed on and the old wheezy 2-speed Power Glide has been ditched for a 200R4, four-speed automatic transmission. Seller says original motor has been “upgraded” by local machinist/racer who raised compression and changed the cam as part of a complete engine rebuild. The car also underwent a thorough mechanical restoration for safety and increased performance.
Seller claims white paint and red interior are original and in great condition. The meatier than stock radial tires and wide whites give the car a good stance, something these cars never had with OEM skinny bias ply tires. Tan top and red innards with original hardware complete the picture on this old Vette.
As we all know, the alterations are a big bugaboo even though the engine mods and transmission swap are invisible beneath stock looking exterior. So it’s not going to win any Bloomigton ribbons, but we think that’s just fine as too many of these old C1s are squirrelled away in dusty old garages or museums. A little updating makes it easier to enjoy the car without feeling like you’re driving a brittle old buggy, and that’s essentially what these first Vettes are as they were hardly state of the art even when they were new sixty years ago.
The BIN price of $69,400 is in the ballpark for what these cars bring and if you don’t like the mods, it would be easy to return to all original.
