As part of a push to gain the hearts and minds of car owners across the country, when it comes time to service their vehicles, Chrysler want them to stop by their local Dodge, Chrysler, RAM of Jeep dealership. The company has partnered with European aftermarket giant Magneti Marelli and Shell Lubricants to provide fast lane service to all customers, regardless of make.
“For customers with competitive vehicles, Mopar’s agreement with Magneti Marelli and Shell Lubricants effectively creates one-stop service shops at our Chrysler Group dealerships. And with the addition of 3,000 quality-tested parts, our dealership network will now have the ability to fully service customers who drive into our service lanes with competitive vehicles,” explained Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar.
To promote awareness and demonstrate capability of their combined capabilities, the company also revealed a new Dodge Avenger rally car, recently completed at Mopar’s accessory and performance parts lab in Center Line, MI.
Mopar and Magneti Marelli engineers transformed the car into a race-inspired vehicle equipped to handle the most challenging rally courses, while reducing the weight of the vehicle by nearly 200 pounds.
Magneti Marelli has a strong background in rally car competition in Europe.
According to Dino Maggioni, CEO of Magneti Marelli Aftermarket, “This is a purpose-built vehicle with collaborative parts from Magneti Marelli and Mopar. We selected Magneti Marelli and Mopar parts, adapted them to the Dodge Avenger and made them unique. The result is a fascinating blend of these two iconic brands.”
The rally car’s 3.6-liter V6 engine is enhanced by an the exhaust system and Mopar cold-air intake boost horsepower from 283 bhp to 300 bhp. The transmission is controlled by paddle shifts integrated into the steering wheel. The high performance braking system includes a single-lever, dual-control rear braking system, which allows the driver to actuate the rear brakes in order to initiate sudden slides and turns. Unique Mopar/Magneti Marelli 18-inch alloy racing wheels with Pirelli P-Zero tires add their performance contribution as well.
The inside has been fitted with a full 8-point Mopar roll cage, race seats and 5-point racing harnesses for safety. A high-performance 1 GB data logger and an integrated GPS and inertial platform is provided to assist the crew during competition.
The first public glimpse of the vehicle will be at at the New York International Auto Show, April 22 – May 1.
