Poor Burt Reynolds. The 78 year old actor is in a longstanding battle to prevent foreclosure on his 12,500–square-foot home down in Florida. And when the chips are down, liquidation becomes a viable option and it looks like Burt hit the jackpot here. As we previously reported, Reynolds put his “Bandit” ‘77 Trans Am up for auction, yet no one imagined that when the gavel fell, some “lucky guy” would win it with a bid of $450K!!
The car was represented by Julien Auctions, the “Auction house of the Stars,” and was estimated to sell in $60-80K range. We’re sure everyone was slack jawed that a well-used 1977 Trans Am would fetch that kind of money. Especially when it was only used for promotional purposes and never appeared in any of the films!
Barely a #3 car.
The car is fairly unremarkable aside from Reynolds name on the title and a hokey plaque on the door jam. Just a black 400CID/Automatic, “Banditized” Trans Am used to promote the film and subsequently became Reynolds whip.
What’s almost as good as the mega price for the T/A, is the other Burt Reynolds stuff that went on the block. A Bandit-themed golf cart ($13,750), a ’97 Dodge Ram pickup with a portrait of Reynolds on the hood ($17,500), and even a motorized stagecoach built for Reynolds’s wedding to Loni Anderson, based on an International Harvester Scout ($34,375). And the icing on the cake? Western-themed art, shirts, saddles and his chaps ($625). Oh boy.
Lucky for Reynolds, the proceeds should go a long way in keeping them pesky bankers at bay. For all the auctions results go here.
