Check out this beautiful 1970 AAR ‘Cuda that gets a thorough walk around on Muscle Car of the Week. A nicely restored example in B5, or “Blue Fire Metallic”, it was one of just 2,760 of this hi-po model made that year. The AAR ‘Cuda was in response to Trans Am racing rules of the day that required at least 500 road cars be produced from the factory to qualify to enter the race.
Plymouth fielded this special edition ‘Cuda with 340 Six Pack with 290 HP, 345 ft-lbs. of torque running through a slapstick 4-speed manual transmission and rolling on a performance tuned suspension. In addition the car came with an elastomeric front bumper, strobe stripes, black fiberglass hood and side mounted exhaust trumpets that dumped ahead of rear wheels. A keen eye will spot winglets at each end of front valance and staggered wheel sizes as well.
The exterior color is quintessential Mopar and is one of our favorites. What really makes this car special is the matching blue cabin. The old E-bodies interiors were plastered with acres of plastic panels that can look pretty drab in dark hues. This color really makes the interior pop in all its late 60’s/early 70’s splendor.
There are a lot of clones and tribute cars built to look like AAR Cudas so be sure and bone up on the history of E-bodies if you’re in the market for one of these cars. Be sure and catch tutorial at end of clip for tips on authenticating one of these cars.
