What a better place to store a removable hardtop than on your 1971 340 ‘Cuda?? This and other anomalies are part of all the barn find craze and here’s a nice one for the Mopar folks.
We all love 1970-74 E-bodies, but back in the day the competition was tough. If we were honest, the Chrysler ponies didn’t move the sales needle enough to justify a revamp after 1974.
Seeing the production numbers for 1971 reinforces the fact. Because they never sold like Camaros and Mustangs, that’s helped nudge rare models like these cars over the six-figure dollar mark.
Which brings us to this orange, one-owner 1971 340/automatic ‘Cuda with black vinyl top that Jim in Missouri captured. Is that an Illinois plate? The car looks fairly complete with black spoiler and elastomeric (painted?) bumpers and the rally wheels. Only 2008 340/Automatic Cuda’s were built in 1971 making this Barracuda a find indeed.
It’s cool there are still nicely optioned cars still out there hidden away. At least this thing is inside and out of the elements. There ought to be a law against letting old cars rot away in the back 40 acres. Alas, this car will have to pried out of owners cold, dead hands as it is “not for sale.” This car would make a great project for the dudes from “Graveyard Carz.”
