Ford GT fans, you may want to avert your eyes. Posted to WreckedExotics.com earlier this week was a solitary cell phone pic of this obliterated GTX1 with a caption that simply read “crashed into a tree, duh”.
While the first generation Ford GT was a limited production model on its own, the GTX1 takes that rarity a step further. The GTX1 is an open-top conversation of the GT done by Genaddi Design Group, who at the time charged $38,000 on top of the purchase price of a new GT to transform the mid-engined coupe into a roadster. While specific production numbers are not available, Genaddi’s original plan was to build a maximum of 500 GTX1s, so we’re talking about Ferrari Enzo levels of scarcity here.
Similar to what you might expect from say, a Roush or Saleen conversion (aside from the body alterations), the GTX1 package included options like power upgrades, suspension modifications, custom interior appointments and visual tweaks.
This particular GTX1 appears to have been the victim of an over-zealous driver, as the dry conditions and lack of any other vehicles involved seems to indicate that a loss of grip due to a lead foot that brought the back end around, where it met a tree at speeds high enough to cause extensive damage (note the flat spot in the rear wheel), but not high enough to cause significant deformation to the passenger compartment.
While we’re usually glad to see rare supercars out on the road being driven and enjoyed rather than stored away in a garage somewhere, we’d really prefer if they remained in one piece.
