Five thousand people. Enough to fill most high school gymnasiums to capacity. That’s how many teenagers lose their lives every year in traffic accidents. It’s undoubtedly a sobering statistic, and one that the folks at Chrysler would like to help reduce as much as they can.
To accomplish that goal, Mopar is working in conjunction with the National Hot Rod Association Motorsports Museum and B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everybody Safe) to promote the virtues of safe and responsible motoring through an advanced driving program called “Mopar Road Ready” that is being held at the Pomona Fairplex in Pomona, California this weekend, February 14th and 15th.
A great opportunity for anyone that has a young driver in their life, the program is open to teens between the ages of 15-19 with a learner’s or driver’s license and at least 30 hours of driving experience. Mopar Road Ready will be comprised of four half-day segments covering the following driving fundamentals:
- Defensive driving w/evasive lane changes, ABS braking and skid control
- Police presentation – effects of impaired and distracted driving, mock sobriety tests, Q&A.
- Essential car care – tire safety, proper seating and mirror positions, distracted driving.
- Understanding clearance and visibility – big rig visibility, obstructed views, etc.
Those interested can sign up at this link. Although there is a $100 deposit for the class, it is refunded back when attendees arrive at the program. According to the latest information, there’s still some remaining seats in the program, so feel free to spread the word.
