Many of us dream of having a classic car that we can cruise around town in. However, classic cars are not known for their creature comforts that we have grown accustom to in modern vehicles. This is the idea behind building a pro-touring car. Recently, a new user to the Pro-Touring.com forum let fellow users know about his project, and we must say, he’s got quiet the starter vehicle.
The new user, going by the name John31s, is starting his project with a 1970 Le Mans. The only thing that’s been done to the car so far is KYB front shocks and rear Air Shocks. John31s’s working with the stock, and well running, 350 cubic-inch engine although his profile states he’d like to switch the engine over to an LS-1. The car also maintains its original TH350 transmission and GM 10-bolt rear end with 2.78 gears.
In order to create a pro-touring car, you must first start with a classic vehicle. Modifications are done to the suspension, drive train, brakes and aesthetics. This creates a classic car with the comforts of a newer vehicle. The main goal of a creating a pro-touring car is to drive it, whether it be on the street, track or road course.
It looks like John31s has a good start to his budget Pro-Touring project. He is looking for advice and suggestions if anyone is part of the forum and willing to give him some ideas. We wish him luck and look forward to hearing updates as the project progresses.
