OK, we’ve really been blasting your eyes with a lot of Fast Five-related content (and sadly there’s a week’s worth still left to go!), but this one was so silly that we thought it was a perfect fit for our weekly “Case of The Mondays” segment. Hailed as the World’s First 364 million-mile-an-hour car, this short 3-minute video is a spoof of the old reels of yore documenting the race for land speed record glory.
Yet, this time around, the goal is a little more absurd. Produced by the Internet service provider XFINITY, the challenge was arranged to develop a car that could drive as fast as their Internet. This of course, is a ludicrous idea, unless of course, your name is Isaac Asimov. What makes it even more ridiculous is that the “engineers” are using the Dom’s ’70 Charger from The Fast And the Furious.
As many hardcore enthusiasts know, the original Chargers used in the first installment of the films were powered by a small block Chevrolet for all the driving, and a polished first-generation HEMI, presumably a 392, with a non-functioning BDS supercharger poking out of the hood. So the likelihood of getting the Charger above 130mph nonetheless lightspeed is pretty low.
The video is quirky, a little silly and worth a look. We particularly enjoy the enormous engine necessary to propel the full-sized version of the Mopar to the speeds, totaling 331 feet in height and 276 feet in width, weighing in at 58 tons, which dimensions also aren’t anywhere near that of a conventional V8, but hey, who cares?
