Factory Five and owner/builder Paul Borror won big recently at the 2015 Detroit Autorama, scoring first place in the “Hand Built Sports Car” category. Check out this resto-rod build that looked like it rolled out of Carrol Shelby’s skunkworks in the mid-sixties.
Starting with Factory Five’s Mk4 kit, Paul orchestrated the build out of his garage in Lake Orion, MI with the help of some talented local techs. The red roadster sits on a FFR tubular frame featuring a DART SHP stroked 347 small block Ford, Quickfuel double pumper carb, 10.5 compression ratio and puts out a healthy 475 HP. From there, a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed spins a Ford 8.8 solid axle and Ford Racing 3.27 gears.
The suspension features many cool bits as well including FFR and SPC Performance front suspension bits, Gordon Levy 5-link rear, Koni shocks and Eibach springs. Wilwood brakes stuffed into big rubber on FFR Halibrand wheels complete the roster.
The build is meticulous to say the least. The paint and bodywork were completed at Motor City Solutions in Taylor, MI and the engine build was performed by Fordstrokers in Carol Stream, IL and both are dazzling to say the least.
The thing that really sets this Cobra apart is it combines the best of both worlds. Leveraging all of Factory Five’s modern technology and coupling it with old school Shelby swagger resulted in a build that will never go out of style.
Trophy in hand, Paul wants to get this thing licensed and on the road and has every intention of driving the car. Congrats on the big win, guys.
