Video: A Custom 1971 Chevelle With 1,000 HP And All-Wheel Drive

Building this beast was no easy task, but it was completed nonetheless.

Pushing the boundaries just a tad bit further, a skilled car builder created a unique monster. Posted on YouTube, we stumbled across a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle coupled with 1,000 horsepower and an all-wheel drive setup.

Several builders on forums have attempted this technological feat but could not finish what they started due to mechanical problems or technical issues. However, that is not the case here as this Chevelle is complete and fully operational.

Under the hood rests a DART 355 cubic inch engine with Diamond 10:1 compression ratio pistons, a cam with 255 to 260 degree duration and 0.625 inch lift. To top it all off, the Chevelle has two Garrett GT35R turbochargers that supply the motor with plenty of boost.

To be exact, the Chevelle develops its 1,000 plus horsepower with E85 fuel and 14 psi of boost. Power hits the pavement with a drivetrain that consists of a General Motors 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission, a GMC Typhoon 3.73 front differential, and a 3.73 12-bolt rear differential.

With an NP149 transfer case with viscous coupling, this Chevelle can reach 0-62 miles per hour in 2.75 seconds and 50-75 miles per hour in 1.01 seconds. Talk about some serious power!

Seeing this monster in motion is crazy. The fact that most muscle cars if not all are rear wheel drive, this Chevelle is unique in that it can channel all of its power to each of the four wheels versus two.

The video here disproves all the naysayers who believe an all-wheel drive setup on an American muscle car is not plausible. What are your thoughts on this huge surgery for this ’71 Chevelle?

Is it overkill? Feel free to share a comment below.
