,“A Faster Horse” the new movie documentary chronicling the behind the scenes adventure into the design and creation of the 2015 Mustang made its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival recently in New York City. Directed by David Gelb, known for the 2011 documentary “Jiro Dreams of Sushi”. While considered by some to be an unlikely choice, Gelb was enlisted by Ford Motor Company to head the project for his interest in the artistry of craftsmanship.

A symbolic and cinematic way to celebrate both the iconic Mustang’s 50^th birthday and the remaking of the brand, the idea for the film was conceived during a conversation between Alessandro Uzielli, the head of Ford Motor’s Global Entertainment Brand, and well-respected producers Nigel Sinclair and Glen Zipper.

With so much at risk in the redesign of a legacy, from the fans reaction to the launch of the new Mustang platform on a global scale, there was a lot at stake for all involved in bringing forth the next generation of the pony car. The movie largely filmed in 2014 captures several of these moments as well as the strong emotional bond the Ford Mustang has established with both fans and enthusiasts. Gelb shared “I thought it was really interesting that so many people seemed emotionally connected to a car and I wanted to get to the bottom of it, “It’s an indelible part of pop culture, and everyone has their own Mustang story.”Gelb was given unbridled control in the making of the film, with Ford Motor Company agreeing to fund and back the project without requiring any creative input. From the Flat Rock Assembly plant to spending time with the champion and hero of the 2015 Mustang- Dave Pericak. With an affection for the amazing craftsmanship of the iconic pony car, Gelb indulged himself into the life of the Mustang. The film is currently looking for a distributor and receiving positive reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival look for this historical Mustang documentary to likely make its way to either an online streaming service or a silver screen near you in the coming months. Preview the trailer for A Faster Horse in the video launch clip below.
