eBay Find: 1979 Ford Fairmont Boss 302

Introduced in 1978 and discontinued in 1983, the Ford Fairmont was around for just a single generation, and as such is often overlooked in the pantheon of Ford cars. But despite its boxy appearance and poor performance, the Fairmont has a small but devoted following who appreciate the simple design and big engine bay.

As it turns out, a few stickers and some bright blue paint can go a long ways towards making the Ford Fairmont a lot better looking. Though Ford never offered a Boss 302 version of the Fairmont, this fan-made 1979 version up for sale on eBay is probably close to what it would have looked like had Ford made such a ride.

Painted an eye-catching Grabber Blue and boasting legit-looking Boss 302 stripes, under the hood is a full Fox-body 5.0 Mustang drivetrain with a T-5 manual transmission backing it up. The seller also claims that the brakes and rear-end also come off of a Fox-body, and why not? Both the Fairmont and Mustang shared a similar platform, the Fox-platform, so many parts swap right over.

But the Fairmont certainly boasts a much different look, and the blacked-out trim with the Grabber Blue paint is an awesome look for this forgotten classic. The asking price of $8,750 might seem high for a late-70s Fairmont, but with the all the work and money that went into this ride, it’s a bargain way to earn a fast, fun, and unique ride.
